Rock the Congress: San Francisco & Peninsula was a one-day conference that provided over 300 Bay Area activists with the skills and training needed to flip seats blue, with the goal of cultivating a strong, lasting coalition of progressive organizations laser-focused on regaining control in Congress as well as state legislatures.

The day-long conference had four main components:

  • Keynote speakers: CA State Controller Betty Yee, Pod Save America’s Dan Pfieffer, and Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-15)

  • Intensive sessions for new and experienced activists on topics such as direct action, technology, and messaging

  • Interactive, facilitated sessions for groups to collaborate on operational plans for 2018 midterm and state elections

  • Networking with Bay Area organizers

  • Afterparty for solidifying new and existing connections (7p.m. at Pissed Off Pete's, 4528 Mission Street)

In solidarity with March for Our Lives, we incorporated programming like an “activism sampler” for new activists, a class on how to lead demonstrations, and a workshop on how to advocate for safe gun laws — scheduled in the morning before the rally so that people could attend the conference before taking BART downtown. We also offered fully sponsored student tickets.
